To A Flighty Firefly

Looking on in shock, I watch you most beloved firefly

As you begin to ascend the skies

Profusely shedding blue tears

As thoughts of you leaving draw new fears

You came into my life on the darkest of nights

And it’s on a dark night that you dare to take flight

As the lonesome fading star dimly twinkles

And the cruel night air bashes the last of the rosy periwinkles

I’m reminded that I’m just too hearty

To throw myself a pity party

If you think I’m not able to handle myself around pain

Remember that I was born of night and pain
